About the position

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program/Project Coordinator, Senior (Safety) at Parks Administration. This role is pivotal as it acts as the Safety Manager for the Parks and Recreation Division, overseeing a comprehensive safety and liability program. The responsibilities include managing loss prevention, workers' compensation, workplace and public safety, environmental protection, compliance, and safety training. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure the safety of both employees and the public, while also ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and standards. In this role, the coordinator will administer large-scale programs and projects that have a significant impact across the County. The position operates independently under limited supervision, with major activities reported through periodic meetings. The coordinator will be responsible for planning, developing, authorizing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating various programs and projects. This includes facilitating inclusion, preparing reports, and analyzing and interpreting data to inform decision-making. The coordinator will also assist the Director and Agency Leadership by researching issues, creating memorandums, policies, procedures, and reports, and monitoring compliance with established policies and procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of agency needs, contractual obligations, and regulations governing local and state requirements. The coordinator will communicate business risks to project managers and senior management, ensuring that client-agencies' needs and business processes are well understood and addressed. Additionally, the coordinator will coordinate with state and local agency partners on various projects and programs, engage in community outreach, and manage public relations efforts. The role includes preparing Commission agendas, providing training to agency staff, and overseeing the agency's training program. The coordinator will also implement compliance and monitoring programs, conduct audits, and perform related work as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the Safety Manager for the Parks and Recreation Division overseeing the division's safety and liability program.
  • Administers large-scale programs and/or projects that have County-wide impact.
  • Plans, develops, authorizes, implements, supervises and evaluates programs/projects, activities and services on a large scale.
  • Coordinates and manages all aspects of a program or project with operational responsibility of a major scope and large-sized budget.
  • Assists Director and Agency Leadership by researching issues, creating memorandums, policies, procedures, reports, etc.
  • Conducts special research in conjunction with a project/program, analyzes data, and makes recommendations based upon research.
  • Identifies and understands agency/business needs, contractual business requirements, and regulations governing local, state and other requirements.
  • Communicates business risks to project manager, senior/executive management, and approving authority for assessment and approval.
  • Coordinates with state and local agency partners on projects and programs, community outreach, media relations and regional services.
  • Advises and assists the Department and Division Directors on all operational and technical matters related to the section(s) or function(s) assigned.
  • Defines agency goals and objectives, develops and recommends policies and operating procedures.
  • Administers internal/external communications and public outreach activities for Division.
  • Prepares Commission agendas, including editing, posting and planning.
  • Provides assistance and training of agency staff and contracted services providers.
  • Plans, organizes and implements a compliance and monitoring program, conducts contract central audits, field documentation reviews, investigations or management studies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration or closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in a staff or administrative capacity managing special projects, programs or business operations appropriate to the area of assignment or closely related experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, risk management, insurance, or closely related field.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Certification.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and/or Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP).
  • Certified Playground Safety Instructor (CPSI) - National Recreation and Park Association.
  • Licensed Mold Assessor.
  • 1+ years experience administering safety programs for a governmental agency.
  • 1+ years experience developing/delivering safety trainings and manuals.
  • 1+ years experience monitoring/managing playground safety activities.
  • 1+ years Emergency Management experience.
  • 1+ years experience with air quality testing (mold).
