About the position

The Program Specialist position is part-time and located within the Fisheries Management Program of the Natural Resources Division in the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Oklahoma City. This role involves assisting the Fisheries Biologist with various operational tasks related to fish management, including research, monitoring, and community engagement activities. The position requires a combination of education and experience in relevant fields, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Fisheries Biologist with day-to-day operations of the Fisheries Management Program.
  • Conduct fish culturing operations and fish stocking activities.
  • Perform fish population surveys using various sampling gear.
  • Monitor water quality and conduct fishing classes.
  • Oversee hatchery tours and data entry tasks.
  • Operate boats, light trucks, and small gasoline engines.
  • Supervise other staff and volunteers as needed.

Requirements

  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • Experience in research is preferred.
  • Education in a related field, typically requiring four or more years of study.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of organizational, managerial, and administrative concepts in fisheries management.
  • Specialized knowledge in engineering, architecture, accounting, urban planning, or related fields.

Benefits

  • Pay range of $24.00 - $34.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Flexible part-time hours, working no more than 29 hours per week.
