About the position

The Program Specialist position is part-time and located within the Fisheries Management Program of the Natural Resources Division in the Parks and Recreation Department of Oklahoma City. This role involves assisting the Fisheries Biologist with various operational tasks related to fish management, including fish culturing, stocking, population surveys, and monitoring water quality. The position requires a combination of education and experience in related fields, and the ability to work independently on certain tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Fisheries Biologist with day-to-day operations of the Fisheries Management Program.
  • Conduct fish culturing operations and fish stocking activities.
  • Perform fish population surveys using various sampling gear.
  • Monitor water quality and conduct fishing classes.
  • Oversee hatchery tours and data entry tasks.
  • Operate boats, light trucks, and small gasoline engines.
  • Supervise other staff and volunteers as needed.

Requirements

  • A minimum of four years of education in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of organizational, managerial, and administrative concepts in fisheries management.
  • Skill in research principles and practices related to fisheries.
  • Ability to operate various tools and equipment used in fisheries management.

Nice-to-haves
