About the position

The Program Supervisor - Fire Management Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and supervising the fire management program within the Anaconda Unit of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. This role involves overseeing fire program planning, operations, resource coordination, and providing assistance to volunteer fire departments and county fire services. The position requires strong leadership and the ability to manage complex fire management situations across a diverse geographical area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the fire management program for the Anaconda Unit.
  • Conduct fire program planning and analysis.
  • Coordinate operations and resources for fire management activities.
  • Supervise and train staff involved in fire management.
  • Provide assistance to volunteer fire departments and county fire services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Resource Management preferred, or any major field of study with significant fire experience.
  • Four years of related professional experience in wildland fire management, planning, personnel training, and management.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in fire management.
  • Thorough knowledge of wildland fire management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Department and interagency policies, rules, and regulations.

  • Strong communication skills for public meetings and media representation.
