About the position

The Program Support Assistant position at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a critical role designed to support the agency's mission of helping people before, during, and after disasters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional integrity and work ethics, capable of handling sensitive information without risk of breach. This position requires a diligent individual who is adept at multitasking between various administrative and program support functions, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely manner, especially those that are time-sensitive. In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, maintaining, and monitoring reporting systems that affect various programs within FEMA. This includes providing essential support to headquarters, regional offices, and contract personnel to help achieve program goals and objectives. The Program Support Assistant will also be tasked with program management and oversight functions related to administrative services and other disaster program-related issues. This may involve recommending guidance, instructions, and internal operating procedures to ensure effective control and follow-up are exercised across the board. As a CORE (Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee), the individual will be part of a full-time team dedicated to supporting disaster response and recovery efforts. This position is temporary, with the potential for renewal based on workload and funding. Employees in this role may be subject to irregular work hours and may be required to travel extensively to emergency sites, often with little advance notice. The position also offers the opportunity for promotion based on performance and the continuing need for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing, maintaining, and monitoring reporting systems affecting programs.
  • Providing support to headquarters, regional, and contract personnel to support program goals and objectives.
  • Providing program management and oversight functions related to administrative services and disaster program issues.
  • Recommending guidance, instructions, and internal operating procedures for effective control and follow-up.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal government, which includes making travel arrangements, maintaining a calendar, and ordering supplies for an office.
  • Utilizing a computer program to finalize correspondence, reports, and/or presentations for the IC-07 level.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal government, which includes monitoring/tracking an office budget for the IC-08 level.
