About the position

The Programmer III at GovCIO is responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining software programs, particularly in scientific programming contexts. This role involves diagnosing and correcting errors, implementing modifications, and ensuring the efficient operation of assigned programs. The programmer works independently under specified objectives, applies judgment in program logic, and may guide lower-level programmers while collaborating with higher-level staff.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and maintain assigned programs.
• Design and implement modifications to the interrelation of files and records within programs.
• Monitor the operation of assigned programs and respond to problems by diagnosing and correcting errors in logic and coding.
• Implement and maintain assigned portions of scientific programming projects.
• Test, document work, and write operator instructions for assigned programs.
• Analyze present performance of the program and take corrective actions based on user discussions and supervisor consultations.
• Assist in the review and analysis of detailed program specifications and program design to meet changes in work processes.
• Guide or instruct lower-level programmers and supervise technicians in specific assignments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of programming experience or commensurate experience.
• Ability to maintain a public trust clearance.
