About the position

Service Wire is a premier manufacturer of industrial, utility, and commercial wire and cable. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic ERP Programmer to join our Culloden, WV corporate team in this full-time, exempt position. As an ERP Programmer at Service Wire, you will play a pivotal role in developing, enhancing, and maintaining our ERP system, which runs through QAD. Your expertise in Progress 4GL/OpenEdge programming will be instrumental in optimizing our ERP processes, ensuring seamless integration with other systems, and contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our IT operations. The ideal candidate possesses analytical depth and a passion for solving business-critical issues with enterprise technology. In this role, you will be responsible for advanced ERP system development, where you will develop complex Progress 4GL/OpenEdge applications, focusing on scalability and optimization for the QAD ERP environment. You will lead the design and implementation of new features, modules, and customizations in the ERP system to meet evolving business needs. Additionally, you will perform advanced database design, tuning, and troubleshooting for Progress databases linked to the ERP system, implementing robust data backup and recovery procedures to ensure data security and compliance. You will also lead initiatives to integrate the QAD ERP with various internal and external systems, ensuring seamless data flow and functionality. This includes developing, testing, and maintaining APIs for efficient data exchange and system integration. Collaboration with key stakeholders will be essential to understand department-specific requirements and translate these into technical solutions. You will provide mentorship and training to junior developers and end-users, enhancing overall team capability and ERP system utilization. Continuous improvement is a key aspect of this position, as you will proactively identify opportunities for system enhancements, conducting research and proposing innovative solutions. Staying abreast of the latest trends in Progress programming, ERP technology, and manufacturing industry best practices will be crucial to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex Progress 4GL/OpenEdge applications, focusing on scalability and optimization for the QAD ERP environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Progress 4GL/OpenEdge programming, with a strong preference for experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Deep understanding of ERP systems, including advanced modules and customization capabilities; QAD experience preferred
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing Progress databases, with a focus on performance tuning and security
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to participate in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Information Systems or a related field a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of QAD's .Net UI, Qxtend integration, and eB2.0 framework
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and familiarity with cloud-based ERP solutions
  • Experience with additional programming languages (e.g., Java, SQL) and modern software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
  • Experience with EDI Processes and Transactions
