About the position

The Project Manager at the UCSD Center for Epigenomics will oversee and coordinate multiple research projects focused on understanding the human genome's function and regulation, particularly in relation to cancer and other diseases. This role involves utilizing agile project management techniques to ensure projects are planned, tracked, and executed efficiently, while also participating in experimental design and scientific communication efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the management and coordination of multiple research projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Utilize agile project management techniques to analyze, develop, optimize, and implement solutions related to project goals, scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and performance.
  • Assist in the management and tracking of data production/research progress across multiple NIH-funded research projects, focusing on neuroscience research.
  • Work alongside supervisors to manage data generation team members to ensure projects are properly planned and executed in a timely manner.
  • Participate in experimental design and maintain careful record keeping and quality control.
  • Summarize results periodically for supervisors and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Represent the Center at meetings and present research findings, collaborating with the Chief Communications Officer to expand the mission of Precision Medicine.

Requirements

  • Theoretical knowledge in molecular biology and biological research or related field, typically attained by an advanced degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR and quantitative PCR.
  • Proven ability to read, comprehend, and discuss research materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships in a diverse laboratory environment.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new techniques and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills to make recommendations on procedure changes to improve practices.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Proven ability to write technical and non-technical materials quickly and accurately under tight deadlines.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain administrative record retention systems.
  • Working knowledge of common computer application programs, including Microsoft Office suite, Adobe suite, and Google Apps.
  • Proven ability to utilize spreadsheets and databases to interpret and organize research information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to use project tracking systems such as Trello, JIRA, MS Project, Zoho, etc.
