About the position

The Project Accountant role at Michael Baker International involves providing full life-cycle project support to Project Managers, particularly within the Western Region. This position focuses on data analytics to monitor project performance, ensuring compliance with contract terms, and assisting with financial reporting and project maintenance. The role requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders to address financial issues and support project success.

Responsibilities

• Perform data analytics at a project level to monitor project performance and provide financial status comments.
• Coordinate project setups with Project Managers to ensure compliance with contract terms.
• Review contracts to understand project type, scope of work, and invoicing terms.
• Monitor project maintenance within Oracle and update budgets/funding as needed.
• Prepare monthly reports for the Regional Project Accounting Manager, including detailed project status comments.
• Participate in project performance reviews and provide financial commentary as needed.
• Assist Project Managers with financial information for proposals and price estimates throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the annual budget process and audit requests from external clients or internal teams.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and assist Project Managers with collections.
• Identify invoicing issues and help develop corrective action plans with Project Managers.
• Provide support for process improvement within the project analytics group.
• Train and mentor Project Accountants I and II on Oracle Project Accountant module updates.
• Provide backup support to the Regional Project Accounting Manager as needed.
• Collaborate with the ERP Team to test and update Oracle reports as necessary.
• Ensure project revenue is recognized in accordance with company policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 1-4 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role.
• Master's in Accounting or Finance, CPA, CMA, or other professional certification preferred.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
• Preferred experience with Oracle Project Accounting Modules or equivalent ERP system.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Oracle Project Accounting Modules at an intermediate level.
