About the position

The Project Accountant at Suffolk Construction Company is responsible for managing all accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions for assigned projects. This role involves ensuring accurate billing processes, coordinating with clients and subcontractors, and maintaining compliance with contractual obligations. The position requires collaboration with project managers and executives to address accounting and administrative issues, contributing to the overall success of complex construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Process the monthly Owner requisition and ensure accuracy and appropriateness of charges before submission.
  • Coordinate a monthly requisition review meeting with the Owner.
  • Provide timely written responses to client inquiries regarding requisitions.
  • Understand applicable conditions and timeframes outlined in contracts relevant to billing, retainage, and funding.
  • Track and follow up on outstanding receivables.
  • Process subcontractor requisitions and ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Instruct subcontractors on Suffolk and Owner billing requirements.
  • Manage the monthly AP process through Textura, including compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with the Suffolk Ops Team to review monthly requisitions for accuracy.
  • Verify all required approvals and compliance documents are received prior to releasing payments.
  • Ensure projects comply with MA Prompt Pay statutes when applicable.
  • Process vendor invoices, budget updates, cost transfers, and accruals.
  • Select invoices for the weekly disbursement cycle and monitor Over/Underbilled amounts.
  • Track the cash position of the project and assist in the administration of a Contractor Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP).
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Project Executives on project accounting and administration issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • 0-3 years of related experience.
  • Above average technical knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Outstanding team player with good interpersonal skills.
