About the position

The Project Application Engineer at ABB plays a crucial role in adapting and implementing sales support strategies for electrical projects. This position involves leading a team of Application Engineers to deliver technically sound and cost-effective solutions, while collaborating with various stakeholders to meet project specifications. The role is remote and contributes to the Electrification Smart Buildings division in North America, focusing on optimizing energy efficiency and supporting customer processes.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt and implement the sales support strategy for the designated area in line with the global support strategy.
  • Lead, develop, and coach a team of Application Engineers to deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with consultant engineers, end users, and EPC customers to define electrical project needs.
  • Provide design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting, and education on ABB solutions.
  • Review and evaluate project specifications and customer requirements to provide electrical solutions.
  • Create one-line electrical diagrams, schematic diagrams, layout and equipment drawings, and project budget pricing for critical power applications.
  • Act as the local product expert in UPS/battery systems, power conditioning, power distribution switchgear, transfer switch, and arc flash mitigation.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering, preferably electrical, with a minimum of six years of experience in the electrical distribution industry, or a master's degree with four years of experience.
  • PE certification is a plus.
  • Previous field, factory, or design engineering experience in electrical power systems at data centers, hospitals, or industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards such as ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, UL/CSA.

  • Strong blend of critical power systems design capability and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to a wide audience including engineers, account managers, contractors, and channel partners.
