About the position

The Project Application Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting various engineering and technical projects, as well as the sales objectives of Wyoming Machinery Company - Power Systems. This position will be under the direction and coordination of the Power Systems Engineering Manager. The responsibilities will encompass local project engineering and management, along with application engineering. This includes tasks such as design, technical support, power system pricing and ordering, and coordination of sales efforts. The engineer will manage and engineer projects that have limited exposure to the company, utilizing the resources provided by Wyoming Machinery Company, Caterpillar, and other vendor affiliates. The job placement will depend on the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities, which will be assessed according to specific guidelines and prior experience. For the Project Application Engineer I level, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required, along with a basic understanding of how engines, generators, PV, and energy storage systems are utilized in Power Systems applications. The Project Application Engineer II level requires a minimum of three years of experience in power systems design, management, or sales, along with additional certifications related to project management and application engineering. This role will serve as the primary Project Manager/Engineer for projects where Wyoming Machinery Company Power Systems acts as the General Contractor or EPC Contractor, leading regular meetings and ensuring successful project completion. The Project Application Engineer III level demands a demonstrated history of leadership and professional responsibilities in project oversight, with a minimum of six years of experience in power systems design, project management, or sales. This role requires advanced proficiency in computer software programs such as Microsoft, AutoCAD, and project management tools like Microsoft Project or Primavera P6. The engineer will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing complex power systems projects effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Support various engineering and technical projects as well as sales objectives of Wyoming Machinery Company - Power Systems.
  • Manage and engineer projects of limited exposure to the company using appropriate resources.
  • Learn and understand the installation and application of various types of equipment and systems provided by Wyoming Machinery Power Systems.
  • Follow the System Engineering Guide for each project to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Communicate with general/electrical contractors, engineers, customers, and/or end users about all aspects of a project.
  • Develop a project schedule in accordance with PSD standards and customer expectations.
  • Review customer specifications and allocated requirements for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Construct production work orders for projects requiring WMC - PSD fabrication, assembly, and installation services.
  • Review ongoing production progress for accuracy and quality as per production work orders and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate meetings throughout the life of the project, including project kick-off, pre-production, and post-production meetings.
  • Source, purchase, and expedite package components and accessories within project budgets.
  • Track project costs throughout the project lifecycle and produce a project cost summary upon completion.
  • Review customer specifications against sales quotations to identify discrepancies and create necessary submittals for customer approval.
  • Generate necessary equipment drawings for submittals and production as required by specifications.
  • Provide sizing calculations for all equipment and their respective component integration as required by the customer.
  • Build Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals including as-built information to be sent to the customer upon project completion.
  • Keep track of all project information using required software and report progress to the Power Systems Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Completed B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering Discipline, from an accredited 4-year college or university.
  • Successful understanding of how engines, generators, PV, and energy storage systems are used.
  • Excellent understanding of the use of computer software programs, such as Microsoft, AutoCAD, and Inventor drafting products.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, both inside and outside the company.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, with basic public speaking skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to organize time and priorities.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in power systems design or sales is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of power systems (engine, generator, and electrical systems), preferably Caterpillar, technical design, and process management is preferred.
  • Some technical knowledge of power systems will be helpful.
