About the position

SCS Engineers is seeking a Project Civil Engineer to join our team in the Charlotte or Raleigh area of North Carolina. This role involves working on a variety of civil, solid waste, and environmental projects, with a strong focus on landfills and landfill infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, motivated, and a team player, with a desire for professional growth. The projects will encompass solid waste management, including landfill gas management, composting, and the infrastructure of composting facilities. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, as the role will require design, engineering, permitting, and construction inspections. This position offers the potential for a hybrid work setting, allowing for a mix of office and fieldwork. As a Project Civil Engineer, you will apply your extensive knowledge of engineering and scientific principles to solid waste assignments and related fields. Your responsibilities will include completing designs using 2D and Civil 3D AutoCAD drafting, performing mathematical calculations, and preparing engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications. You will be expected to make independent decisions on engineering or scientific problems, plan and coordinate work, and represent the company at meetings and conferences. Fieldwork will be required in varied terrain and weather conditions, alongside office-based tasks such as drafting, report writing, and creating site plans and facility diagrams. Additionally, you will engage in business development activities, including proposal preparation, client meetings, and attendance at industry-related conferences and trade shows. This position also involves managing tasks and small projects with support from other office staff, ensuring that all projects are completed efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate will receive technical guidance on complex problems and will need supervisory approval for proposed plans or projects.

Responsibilities

  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles in solid waste assignment areas.
  • Complete designs using 2D and Civil 3D AutoCAD drafting and mathematical calculations.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications.
  • Make independent decisions on engineering or scientific problems and methods.
  • Plan and coordinate work, representing the company at meetings and conferences.
  • Perform fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Conduct office-based tasks including AutoCAD drafting, report writing, and creating site plans.
  • Engage in business development activities including proposal preparation and client meetings.
  • Manage tasks and small projects with support from other office staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction, Geotechnical, Environmental or similar Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of civil engineering experience required; solid waste experience is a plus.
  • E.I.T. certification required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D design software is essential.
  • Project Management experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
