About the position

The Project Controller at PSEG Power plays a crucial role in the capital project team, collaborating closely with project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. This position involves defining project goals, maintaining budgets, analyzing progress, and recommending actions to enhance project performance. The Project Controller is responsible for financial oversight and reporting, ensuring that all project-related financial activities align with company standards and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Project Managers in developing activity-based work breakdown structures (WBS) and monthly capital project forecasts.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to monitor costs, project future expenditures, and analyze variances.
  • Coordinate month-end, quarterly, and year-end financial close for capital nuclear projects.
  • Maintain project costs within authorized funding and process funding change documents when required.
  • Investigate and reconcile purchase orders and invoices to proper accounting/cost management guidelines.
  • Maintain cost and budget account integrity through timely journal entries and corrections.
  • Prepare and process accruals with supporting documentation.
  • Ensure document control for project team members' access to necessary information.
  • Prepare monthly Project Status Reports (PSR) and analyze project actual costs and variances.
  • Maintain Daily Outage Cost Reports (DOCR) during outage periods for specific capital projects.
  • Assist Project Managers in maintaining project controls related to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Interface with local Finance personnel on corporate reporting and financial issues.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in a related field or five years of direct work experience in Finance.
  • Five years of experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, and/or cost analysis/control.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and financial control software.
  • Must meet and maintain Nuclear's requirements for unescorted site access.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA degree.
  • Knowledge of PSEG Power budget/finance processes.
  • Project management/project controls experience.
  • Knowledge of power generation or utility capacity.
  • Experience with scheduling software.
  • Familiarity with SAP, Ariba, Engage.
