About the position

The Project Controls Engineer I plays a crucial role in assisting project managers with the management of project schedules and costs. This position involves developing and maintaining project performance baselines, preparing project estimates, and conducting cost analyses to ensure project health. The engineer will support project managers in various administrative and organizational tasks, contributing to the overall success of projects through effective planning and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project managers in managing project schedules and costs.
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and execute complex project performance baselines.
  • Prepare project estimates and perform cost analysis to determine project health.
  • Identify impacts and assist with the development of recovery plan activities.
  • Support project organizational and administrative activities.
  • Perform cost estimating functions including developing proposal Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedules.
  • Build cost and schedule performance baselines with defined scope and deliverables.
  • Assist in determining activity sequencing and durations for projects.
  • Establish Earned Value Management System (EVMS) performance standards and reporting.
  • Monitor schedules, identifying critical activities and updating functions as needed.
  • Prepare progress and performance reports for assigned projects.
  • Manage assigned projects, maintaining cost and schedule data and projections.
  • Support project managers in managing procurement actions.
  • Develop accurate Estimate at Completion for project costs and perform monthly fee analyses.
  • Track and review change orders, ensuring they are factored into EAC/fee profit analysis.
  • Formulate effective communications and reporting requirements for project status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in management, finance, or a related discipline.
  • 0-2 years of project control experience in engineering, environmental, and construction projects.
  • Experience in preparing cost estimates and forecasting using PMI-approved methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, scheduling, cost control, and risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with Project Controls EVMS processes and project management software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with all levels of management and clients.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercising good judgment under pressure.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.
