About the position

The Project Coordinator for the CIP and Sales Tax Project Group within the Public Works Department is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance, construction, and expansion of infrastructure projects. This role involves technical and administrative duties, ensuring compliance with construction standards, and facilitating effective communication among various stakeholders. The position is essential, requiring the individual to report during civil emergencies and maintain high productivity levels while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance, construction, and expansion of infrastructure projects.
  • Review and interpret construction plans, ensuring contractor adherence to standards and specifications.
  • Attend pre-construction and progress meetings for assigned projects.
  • Inspect construction work in progress and verify accuracy of dimensions.
  • Monitor restoration efforts related to excavations and assist in roadway paving inspections.
  • Prepare field sketches and maintain project management records.
  • Develop projects from conception through design and construction phases.
  • Prepare reports, maintain daily logs, and compute monthly estimates of work completed.
  • Serve as a liaison between City Departments, the public, and contractors regarding City projects.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints related to assigned projects.
  • Assist in tracking and processing Right of Way permits for utilities.
  • Communicate updates to City Departments during emergency situations.
  • Calculate costs and evaluate bids for construction projects.
  • Manage assigned Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects, including contract administration.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent diploma required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in construction and inspection required.
  • Experience in roadway, sidewalk, and stormwater construction inspection is required.
  • Knowledge of City Codes of Ordinances, FDOT, ADA, and Public Works Engineering standards is essential.
  • Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • NPDES Stormwater Management Inspector Certification required within six months of hire.
  • FDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification required within nine months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of basic engineering methodology and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to work with computerized project management software applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction design prints and prepare material take-offs.
