About the position

The Project Coordinator for the Domestic Violence Law Project (DVLP) at Safe Horizon plays a crucial role in providing legal advocacy and case management services to high-risk victims of domestic violence. This position involves crisis intervention, emotional support, and facilitating access to legal resources and assistance for clients navigating the family court system. The coordinator will operate the DVLP Hotline, manage client information, and collaborate with attorneys to ensure comprehensive support for victims across all five boroughs.

Responsibilities

  • Providing client-centered crisis intervention, emotional support, and case management to high-risk victims of crime and abuse.
  • Operating the DVLP Hotline by returning messages, interviewing and screening callers, and providing legal information and referrals.
  • Providing information regarding the Family Court process, court procedures, and types of relief available.
  • Making referrals to DVLP Staff Attorneys and Supervising Attorneys for consultations and representation.
  • Working closely with DVLP attorneys to ensure clients receive trauma-informed and holistic services.
  • Inputting client information, statistics, and case notes into Safe Horizon's Case Management System.
  • Advocating with Family Court personnel and the criminal justice system on behalf of clients.
  • Safety planning and risk assessment for clients.
  • Connecting clients to emergency practical assistance, including shelters and financial aid.
  • Attending internal and external meetings, trainings, and workshops.
  • Assisting with Spanish language translation for DVLP attorneys.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and other victims of crime.
  • Experience with the criminal justice and civil legal systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
