About the position

The Project Coordinator for the Native Hawaiian Center at Leeward Community College is responsible for administering and executing the Kamehameha Schools Kaiaulu grant activities. This role involves the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of the grant's goals and objectives. The coordinator will create a strategic plan that integrates Hawaiian culture-based education as the foundation for the program, ensuring that activities align with increasing student utilization of the Native Hawaiian Center's services. In this position, the coordinator will work closely with various divisions, units, and personnel at Leeward CC to ensure that the terms of the grant are met. Regular updates will be provided to key personnel on campus and community partners, identifying successes and potential barriers. The coordinator will also engage with the campus community, Native Hawaiian agencies, and community groups to promote grant activities and leverage support for ongoing initiatives, ensuring continual funding and program sustainability. The role includes hiring, training, supervising, and managing staff to meet grant objectives. The coordinator will define and collect data relevant to the achievement of grant goals, implement a records management system for data keeping, and create necessary reports and presentations. Additionally, the coordinator will oversee assessment and evaluation processes, identifying areas for continuous improvement based on grant indicators. Budget management for the grant, including procurement procedures and fiscal reporting, is also a key responsibility. The coordinator will prepare information for the Annual Performance Report and represent the Native Hawaiian Center at various meetings and committees, both on and off-campus. Work hours may include evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Native Hawaiian Center at meetings and committees.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Education, Educational Counseling, Business, Social Sciences, or Social Work.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in an educational setting.
  • Considerable knowledge of managing, evaluating, and reporting on grant-funded programs.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state laws related to grant management.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems using creative reasoning and logic.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report preparation.
  • Proficiency in personal computer and word processing software.
  • Ability to lead subordinates and manage work priorities and projects.
  • Experience in budget management and fiscal processing.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including Native Hawaiian and underrepresented students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Counseling, Business, Social Sciences, or Social Work.
  • Coursework in Hawaiian Studies or Hawaiian Language.
  • Knowledge of the University's mission as an indigenous-serving institution.
  • Experience working with Native Hawaiian serving organizations.
  • Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures.
