About the position

The Project Coordinator (Technology Transfer Analyst) at LSUHSC-S plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of Research and the Executive Director of Innovation, Commercialization, and Partnerships. This position focuses on enhancing administrative efficiency and improving processes related to the recruitment, evaluation, protection, and marketing of intellectual property (IP). The coordinator collaborates with faculty to identify patentable ideas, guides them through the patenting process, and manages Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs). Additionally, the role involves assisting Principal Investigators in preparing funding proposals and developing marketing strategies for life science licensing opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify patentable ideas and navigate the patenting process.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to faculty and staff concerning IP disclosures, licensing, and commercialization activities.
  • Ensure operational efficiency by handling administrative processes and supporting key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Review and maintain official records of contracts, MTAs, CDAs, license agreements, and royalty distributions.
  • Coordinate federal reporting to agencies funding IP through grants (e.g., NIH, DOD, NSF), ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • Assist in negotiations of license agreements and support start-up formation.
  • Assist in marketing LSUHSC-S technologies and identifying potential licensees.
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing campaigns for life science licensing opportunities.
  • Participate in external activities and events to promote the mission of the Office of Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences, Legal Studies (with a focus on Intellectual Property), Technology Management, Innovation, or a related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in business development, intellectual property management, or research commercialization.
  • Master's degree (preferred) in Business Administration (MBA), Law (with a focus on Intellectual Property), Life Sciences, Technology Commercialization, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in business administration, research, intellectual property, and partnerships.
  • Prior experience in a university technology transfer office is beneficial.
  • Ability to guide and oversee the work of others while managing multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously.
  • Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) certification, membership in AUTM, and experience with Cayuse Innovation management software, Sophia knowledge management, or similar intellectual property tracking systems.
