About the position

The Project Coordinator for Oncology Basic Science at Wayne State University will play a pivotal role in supporting the research efforts of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive cancer center. This position is based in the Department of Oncology and reports directly to the Molecular Imaging (MI) Program Leader. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing complex project schedules, maintaining work plans, task lists, and project calendars to ensure that all initiatives within the MI Program adhere to established frameworks and deadlines. This role requires a proactive approach to organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings and events, including the coordination of logistics for monthly meetings and major annual retreats or symposiums. The Project Coordinator will also serve as a key liaison between the NCI, community members, and external research collaborators, ensuring that stakeholder perspectives are effectively collected and managed to achieve optimal solutions. In addition to project management, the Project Coordinator will provide essential support to cancer center leaders in various capacities, including writing research reports and manuscripts, developing presentations, and contributing to grant submissions. The role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with diverse teams. The Project Coordinator will be involved in drafting project updates and reports as needed, and will perform other related duties as assigned. This position is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, and possesses excellent communication skills, particularly in virtual environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crucial support to research efforts of WSU's National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center.
  • Manage complex project schedules for various initiatives within the MI Program.
  • Maintain work plans, task lists, and project calendars on a regular basis and ensure adherence to deadlines.
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings and events, including logistics for monthly meetings and major annual retreats/symposiums.
  • Liaison between NCI, community members, and external research collaborators.
  • Coordinate efforts with other internal cancer research areas and serve as a link between various programs within the Department of Oncology.
  • Support cancer center leaders in writing research reports and manuscripts, developing presentations, and contributing to grant submissions.
  • Draft project updates and reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Entry level experience (less than a year of job-related experience).
  • Strong project coordination skills, including self-motivation, adaptability, and efficiency.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in virtual communication.
  • Advanced capabilities with Microsoft Office products for research papers, data management, and presentation preparation.
