About the position

The Project Coordinator for Transformative Art and Monuments is a pivotal role within the Office of Arts & Culture, responsible for supporting the coordination of the Un-Monuments projects and various programs. This position involves a range of administrative tasks, including general correspondence, meeting and event planning, and tracking project progression and reporting. The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Public Art and other colleagues within the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture (MOAC) to facilitate the successful execution of these initiatives. The Un-Monuments projects aim to challenge and transform the way communities perceive memorials, promoting a more diverse representation of history and culture. The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting artists as they engage with the community, fostering reflection, collaboration, and activism. This includes managing the program calendar, maintaining accurate records of projects, budgets, payments, and timelines, and ensuring effective documentation and evaluation of events. In addition to these responsibilities, the Project Coordinator will act as an internal point of contact for the program, coordinating with various stakeholders within the City of Boston. This role requires a self-motivated team player who can lead cross-functional groups through complex work, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build consensus among diverse groups. The position is grant-funded for a duration of two years and requires Boston residency.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and prepare for workshops and events, as well as additional meetings.
  • Manage program calendar of events.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of the projects, budgets, payments, and timelines.
  • Support documentation of events.
  • Support reporting and evaluation.
  • Act as an internal point person for the program by coordinating with other City of Boston colleagues.
  • Draft communications with various involved parties internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with other office programs, including Public Art, City Hall Plaza Engagement, Cultural Planning, and Radical Imagination for Racial Justice.

Requirements

  • Requires three plus (3+) years of directly relevant experience.
  • Experience in project management, management consulting, or transformation/change management is a strong plus.
  • Certificate or Degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, design thinking, organizational development, or related field).
  • Bachelor's degree replaces two (2) years of required experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, at minimum.
  • Influential, with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and consensus in cross-functional stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated team player able to lead cross-functional groups through complex work.
  • Comfort with ambiguity.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Must exercise discretion and sound judgment and be capable of handling confidential and highly sensitive information with professionalism and unquestionable integrity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and Google Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual applicants are preferred, with precedence given to Spanish-speaking applicants.
