About the position

The Project Coordinator at Schuff Steel plays a crucial role in managing the flow of technical information among the Project Management team, customers, subcontractors, and vendors. This position focuses on developing strong relationships through effective communication and collaboration with various departments to ensure the smooth execution of projects. The role involves reviewing design drawings, coordinating project details, providing technical guidance, and monitoring project schedules to achieve successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the flow of technical information between the Project Management team, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Review design drawings for accuracy and completeness, coordinating resolution of discrepancies with relevant parties.
  • Coordinate project sequencing and detailing job setup, including advance bills and shop drawings.
  • Provide technical instructions to steel detailers for preparing shop drawings according to project requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules regarding submittals, approvals, and shop fabrication releases, communicating potential delays to the project management team.
  • Organize the detailing RFI process and facilitate documentation efforts as required.
  • Distribute and route drawings, partnering with Document Control to maintain logs and avoid delays.
  • Act as a liaison between shop, field, and detailers to resolve fabrication and erection difficulties.
  • Maintain daily communication with Project Manager or higher on progress of responsibilities.
  • Assist the Project Management Team in achieving successful project results.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associates degree or training in engineering or detailing/drafting preferred.
  • At least five years of related experience in coordinating structural steel projects; detailing experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop and design drawings; general understanding of drafting skills and structural steel practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Structural/Civil Engineering, or other technical area may substitute for required experience.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software/Tekla practices and fabrication standards.
