About the position

The Project Coordinator at Tennessee State University is responsible for planning, implementing, and reporting on Extension educational programs aimed at transitional and organic crop growers. This role involves developing innovative educational programs, assessing regional needs in horticulture, and disseminating information to keep crop producers informed about the latest research and practices in organic agriculture.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements innovative educational programs for transitional and organic crop growers.
  • Assesses regional needs, issues, and trends in horticulture to prepare situational data for program development.
  • Researches and disseminates information related to the transitional to organic agriculture program (TOPP) and other relevant research.
  • Plans, implements, evaluates, and reports on all phases of the organic production educational programs.
  • Collaborates with extension agents and program leaders on outreach and training workshops in the industry.
  • Develops annual reports for program directors, field staff, specialists, advisory councils, and clientele groups.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, plant science, or a directly related field.
  • At least one year of experience in organic agriculture production or a related area.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Effective use of media and electronic technology in educational program delivery.
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build strong linkages and teamwork with field staff, specialists, and colleagues.
  • Experience with Windows-based software.
  • Knowledge of vegetable production machinery and possession of a valid state driver's license.
