About the position

The Project Coordinator at the Conservation Corps of Long Beach (CCLB) is responsible for overseeing the Sustainability Department, managing conservation projects such as recycling and community beautification. This role involves direct supervision of crew members, project planning, grant writing, and business development to ensure the department's growth and success. The Project Coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders and maintain strong relationships to foster customer satisfaction and project success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, bid, and evaluate recycling projects and community beautification initiatives.
  • Assist in writing grant applications for the Conservation Department, focusing on Cal Recycle grants.
  • Provide supervision, training, and mentoring to Crew Supervisors for efficient project execution.
  • Conduct weekly safety sessions for crews, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Maintain detailed project schedules and weekly rosters for all crews and assignments.
  • Coordinate projects with partners and sponsors to ensure strong relationships and project success.
  • Lead interviews and participate in the orientation of new corpsmember applicants.
  • Support the Project Manager in coordinating corpsmember development and training programs.
  • Oversee and manage all equipment, project materials, and safety supplies.
  • Acquire new business accounts and contracts to grow the department's portfolio.
  • Prepare daily project records and ensure fleet vehicle maintenance.
  • Track and monitor expenses to maintain budget compliance.
  • Prepare reports of project activities and track data for grant reporting.
  • Represent CCLB at professional conferences and training sessions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in the recycling industry or with Cal Recycle grants.
  • At least three years of prior supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire new business accounts and maintain client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of recycling, natural lands management, and community greening.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to environmental conservation and fostering environmental ethics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a related field.
  • Prior experience in scheduling and supervising crews.
  • Prior management experience within public or non-profit agencies.
