About the position

HBK Engineering is seeking a Project Coordinator responsible for client interaction, project scope adherence, scheduling, coordination of field and design work, budget review, and support for Project Managers. The role requires effective communication with internal leadership, clients, contractors, and team members, working under the guidance of an Engineer or Project Manager. The Project Coordinator will contribute to the engineering design and construction of utility infrastructure projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a team member on a diverse technical team involved in the engineering design and construction of utility infrastructure.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve tracking metrics related to project design and permitting progress.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external teammates.
  • Provide support to project team leadership through assistance with project forecasts and analytics.
  • Identify project/program budget, forecast, and authorization concerns early and develop resolutions.
  • Monitor program financial risks and opportunities and provide detailed analysis of variances.
  • Assist project manager with invoicing.
  • Review external schedules belonging to owners, clients, and construction partners.
  • Monitor and maintain schedules with the project team to meet client deadlines.
  • Develop and improve non-technical program/project procedural documents.
  • Perform field work as necessary, including data collection and construction observation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or associate's degree in business, statistics, or communication-related majors.
  • Previous experience with utility construction projects, specifically in the City of Chicago.
  • Previous administration, project coordination, or data analysis experience.
  • Ability to solve complicated problems by breaking them down into manageable steps.
  • Ability to work independently on day-to-day tasks and prioritize efforts based on deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and achieve objectives in a dynamic environment with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to learn new Microsoft Office 365 apps for project management purposes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, IF formulas, PowerBI) is a plus.
