The Project Cost Controller at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial aspects of construction projects. This position requires collaboration with project management teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, budget management, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle. The role demands a balance of strategic oversight and detailed attention to project costs, ensuring that financial objectives are met while supporting the hospital's mission to advance pediatric care.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly monitor actual project expenditures against the budget and forecast future costs.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports and financial summaries for project management and senior management presentations.
  • Develop and maintain the project budget, forecasting costs based on historical data and market trends.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and stakeholders to meet cost objectives.
  • Use financial modeling to predict project financial performance and analyze variances between actual and budgeted costs.
  • Identify and assess potential financial risks associated with project delays and cost overruns, tracking mitigation strategies.
  • Continually assess and improve cost control methods and processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of changes in project scope and incorporate these into project forecasting.
  • Work with procurement, project management, and finance teams to monitor and report on contract commitments.
  • Set up and monitor project funding approvals, cash allocations, and overall cost reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or a relevant field.
  • At least three years of construction project or real estate project development cost control experience preferred.
  • Hospital construction cost control project experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated Project Manager experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of construction project experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of financial reporting experience preferred.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in financial principles, budgeting, and accounting practices.
  • Ability to quickly identify problems and devise practical solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) - Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) preferred.
