About the position

The Project Counselor for the TRIO Talent Search Program is a part-time role focused on providing counseling and support services to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The position aims to assist these students in completing high school and enrolling in college through individual and group counseling, career planning, and case management services.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual and group counseling for students on academic, personal, and financial aid topics.
• Helps students with career planning and identifying college and career objectives.
• Assesses and documents the academic and motivational needs of students selected for participation in program activities.
• Provides crisis intervention and coordinates care as needed.
• Delivers case management services through ongoing contact and follow-up with students.
• Prepares reports for the director to ensure participants are following program guidelines.
• Assists the Project Director and Advisers in managing TRIO programming, including recruitment, outreach, and program assessments.
• Represents the Parris Foundation at professional and community organizations.
• Engages in collaborative efforts with other Talent Search Programs to seek internal and external resources to augment counseling services.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience in counseling or related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and understand their needs.
• Knowledge of college admissions processes and financial aid resources.
