About the position

As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Project Design Electrical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers, focusing on remediating issues, upgrading existing infrastructure, and adding new services. This role involves providing lifecycle support from design through implementation, ensuring that data center upgrades enhance capacity, availability, and sustainability. You will collaborate with various teams and act as a technical subject matter expert, managing multiple projects across different geographical regions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and increase sustainability.
  • Prepare/review short circuit coordination studies and maintain software models to match as-built site conditions.
  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region.
  • Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for your discipline during new remediation projects.
  • Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of design experience with industrial or commercial engineering in Mission Critical facilities, including data centers and power generation.
  • Experience with data center builds, network engineering, and systems engineering.
  • Strong engineering judgment and ability to provide design recommendations despite uncertainty.
  • Detail and data-oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
  • Ability to build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction, and Design).
  • Experience managing design and as-built drawings and documents.
  • Ability to prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • Experience as a resident design engineer or hands-on design consultant.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data center electrical and mechanical topology and EPMS/SCADA/BMS Controls system experience.
  • Fluent knowledge of continuous operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment, and building management systems.
