About the position

The Project Development Engineer will collaborate with the Development and Engineering teams to support the creation of high-quality solar PV projects. This role involves evaluating, analyzing, and designing in-house development projects, focusing on optimizing financial returns and ensuring compliance with engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate prospective sites for solar projects based on internal guidelines and engineering best practices.
  • Analyze existing internal or 3rd party PV designs for inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop layouts and electrical design packages for solar PV systems for various purposes including internal review and permitting submissions.
  • Support project financing through technical due diligence and communication with financiers' engineers.
  • Perform energy production modeling to optimize project design and maximize development value.
  • Provide value engineering solutions during development, pre-construction, and construction phases.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, environmental, and structural engineering firms to obtain necessary design packages.
  • Develop single-line and three-line diagrams for solar PV systems in compliance with relevant standards and requirements.
  • Lead the interconnection approval process with utilities and ISOs from application to final design approval.
  • Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders regarding engineering and technical issues related to solar PV systems.
  • Develop technical specifications and scopes of work for engineering firms and contractors.
  • Coordinate electrical integration and interconnection of energy storage systems.
  • Mentor and train team members on project design, interconnection, and energy modeling.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred).
  • 4 or more years of solar PV design, design/build, or EPC field experience.
  • Experience in electrical interconnection design & coordination (LV & MV).
  • Experience in high voltage design and coordination (highly desired).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVSYST.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional is an advantage.
  • PE License is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in ETAP, ASPEN, PSSE, or SKM power system analysis software is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
