About the position

Honeywell Performance Material and Technologies is seeking an experienced Project Development Engineer in their Morris Plains, NJ location. This role involves working interactively with the business, R&D, and plant groups to identify improvements and expansions to existing product lines, as well as developing new product processes that will sustain and grow the business. The Project Development Engineer will ensure that Honeywell's Process Standards and Procedures are met during the development, design, and construction phases. Additionally, this position will provide process technology support to operating plants. The Project Development Engineer will partner with and advise Performance Material and Technologies Business Areas and New Technology Development to meet and enhance their goals, objectives, and Strategic Plans. This will be achieved by integrating a wide range of information into various modeling tools, thereby gaining consensus and enhancing the decision-making process. The role encompasses providing the full spectrum of Project Development services, including conceptual Capital Cost Estimates, Site Selection, Option Sorting, Economic Evaluation, Technology Assessment, Acquisition and Competitive Analysis, and R&D coordination. Managing the Project Definition/Front End Loading phases of major projects is a key responsibility, which includes gaining consensus and approvals for all project scope issues, leading the preparation and review of definitive capital cost estimates and project budgets, and managing the efforts of Engineering Firms employed for these services. The Project Development Engineer will also conduct Value Engineering, perform Project Risk Assessment, Schedule Development, Project Cost Reporting, Forecasting, and Control. A strong working partnership with the Business Area, R&D, Asset Management, and Engineering functions is essential, along with skillful application of standard work processes, including supporting Honeywell's Capital Project Management work process, engineering design standards, and engineering operating procedures. The role requires managing multiple teams and programs simultaneously, ensuring timely and effective communications with all levels of the organization, and demonstrating excellent people and project management skills, including coaching, motivating, team building, and enhancing the success of high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Work interactively with business, R&D, and plant groups to identify improvements and expansions to existing product lines.
  • Develop new product processes to sustain and grow the business.
  • Ensure compliance with Honeywell's Process Standards and Procedures during development, design, and construction phases.
  • Provide process technology support to operating plants.
  • Partner with Performance Material and Technologies Business Areas and New Technology Development to enhance their goals and objectives.
  • Integrate a wide range of information into various modeling tools to enhance decision-making processes.
  • Provide full spectrum of Project Development services including conceptual Capital Cost Estimates and Economic Evaluation.
  • Manage Project Definition/Front End Loading phases of major projects, including scope approvals and capital cost estimates.
  • Conduct Value Engineering and Project Risk Assessment.
  • Develop and maintain strong working partnerships with Business Area, R&D, Asset Management, and Engineering functions.
  • Manage multiple teams and programs simultaneously and ensure effective communication across the organization.

Requirements

  • Engineering BS Degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in proposal management, project development, process/project engineering, or front-end business alternatives analysis required.
  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Industrial or chemical manufacturing/design experience preferred.
  • Strong people leadership, including mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience in managing financial budgets and projects.
