About the position

Honeywell Performance Material and Technologies is seeking an experienced Project Development Engineer to join our team in Morris Plains, NJ. In this role, you will work interactively with various business units, research and development (R&D), and plant groups to identify improvements and expansions to our existing product line, as well as develop new product processes that will sustain and grow our business. The Project Development Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that Honeywell's Process Standards and Procedures are adhered to during the development, design, and construction phases of projects. Additionally, you will provide essential process technology support to our operating plants, ensuring that all operations align with our strategic goals. As a Project Development Engineer, you will partner with and advise the Performance Material and Technologies Business Areas and New Technology Development teams to meet and enhance their goals and objectives. This will involve integrating a wide range of information into various modeling tools to gain consensus and enhance the decision-making process. You will be responsible for providing the full spectrum of Project Development services, including conceptual capital cost estimates, site selection, option sorting, economic evaluation, technology assessment, acquisition and competitive analysis, and R&D coordination. You will manage the Project Definition and Front End Loading phases of major projects, which includes gaining consensus and approvals for all project scope issues, leading the preparation and review of definitive capital cost estimates and project budgets, and managing the efforts of engineering firms employed for these services. Conducting value engineering, performing project risk assessments, and overseeing schedule development, project cost reporting, forecasting, and control will also be key responsibilities. Your ability to acquire and maintain experience and knowledge of Performance Material and Technologies Business Areas and New Technology Development will be essential for success in this role. Developing and leveraging strong working partnerships with the Business Area, R&D, Asset Management, and Engineering functions will be critical. You will apply standard work processes, including supporting Honeywell's Capital Project Management work process, engineering design standards, and engineering operating procedures. Managing multiple teams and programs simultaneously while ensuring timely and effective communication with all levels of the organization will be vital. Your excellent people and project management skills will be utilized to coach, motivate, and build high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Partner and advise Performance Material and Technologies Business Areas and New Technology Development to meet and enhance their goals and objectives.
  • Provide the full spectrum of Project Development services including conceptual Capital Cost Estimates, Site Selection, Option Sorting, Economic Evaluation, Technology Assessment, Acquisition and Competitive Analysis, and R&D coordination.
  • Manage the Project Definition/Front End Loading phases of major projects, including gaining consensus and approvals for project scope issues.
  • Lead the preparation and review of definitive capital cost estimates and project budgets.
  • Manage the efforts of Engineering Firms employed for project services.
  • Conduct Value Engineering and perform Project Risk Assessment, Schedule Development, Project Cost Reporting, Forecasting and Control.
  • Acquire and maintain experience and knowledge of Performance Material and Technologies Business Areas and New Technology Development.

Requirements

  • Engineering BS Degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in proposal management, project development, process/project engineering, or front-end business alternatives analysis required.
  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Industrial or chemical manufacturing/design experience.
