About the position

We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager to join our established earthwork and wet utility contracting team serving the Denver front range area. This role is crucial in ensuring that our projects are executed with the highest quality and professionalism. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers and general superintendents, focusing on quality control and assisting in various project management tasks. In this role, you will be involved in facilitating project subcontractors and suppliers buyout processes, assisting with project document control, and managing requests for information (RFIs), supplemental information, submittals, and drawing and specification reviews. You will also assist with quantity take-offs and Agtek reports, ensuring that all project documentation is accurate and up-to-date. Your responsibilities will extend to project planning and execution, where you will help with material procurement, work planning, and mentoring engineering staff. Additionally, you will play a key role in project cost control, monitoring inventory, labor productivity, and ensuring that all project documentation and procedures are followed. This includes managing subcontractor relationships, preparing and tracking progress claims, and ensuring that all project close-out documentation is coordinated effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering or construction management, with a focus on heavy civil earthworks and underground utilities, and will be proficient in relevant software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside project managers and general superintendents on all quality control items.
  • Assist PM in facilitating project subcontractors and suppliers buyout (PO's).
  • Assist PM and General Superintendent with project document control, RFIs, supplemental information, submittals, drawing and spec review, etc.
  • Assist with quantity Agtek reports and take-offs.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Material procurement and expediting, assistance in work planning for self-perform and work activities, oversight and mentoring of engineering staff.
  • Project close-out: involved in coordinating of documentation - deficiencies, warranties, maintenance and final payments.
  • Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of the project schedule and costing system.
  • Inventory control - monitoring and tracking of equipment and resources, labor productivity monitoring for self-perform work activities.
  • Coordinating and reviewing drawings, submissions, specifications, changes and document control.
  • Responsible for set-up, issuing documentation, pricing and change administration for change management.
  • Subcontract administration - defining scope of work, writing subcontracts, answering inquiries, monitoring progress, tracking and processing back charges.
  • Preparing and tracking progress claims and estimates.

Requirements

  • Construction or Civil Engineering related degree preferred.
  • 2+ years relevant experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Projects, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of SharpeSoft (similar to HCSS, Bid2Win), Agtek, Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
