The successful candidate will serve as a technical resource, interpreting plans and specifications, and resolving any questions or issues that arise during the project lifecycle. A comprehensive understanding of client requirements, construction documents, subcontracts, and purchasing is essential for this position. The Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager will coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, and scheduling for projects in collaboration with Senior Project Managers, Operations Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen. This includes attending pre-job and weekly coordination meetings, ensuring adherence to quality control procedures, and preparing monthly billings while ensuring subcontractors are included. The role also involves providing information on change orders and contract modifications, negotiating changes with customers, and ensuring timely processing of change orders. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining all daily corporate documentation, reviewing job cost reports, monitoring labor costs, and ensuring compliance with safety program requirements. The position requires strong communication skills to maintain positive relations with clients and resolve conflicts effectively. The Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager will also oversee the timely issuance of vendor purchase orders and subcontracts, verify material deliveries, and ensure efficient job close-out processes. This role is crucial for the successful execution of projects and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpretation of plans and specifications, resolving questions and problems as they arise.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of client requirements, construction documents, subcontracts, and purchasing.
  • Coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, and scheduling for projects with Sr. Project Managers, Operations Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen.
  • Attend pre-job and weekly coordination meetings with the field as necessary.
  • Ensure that quality control procedures are followed during construction.
  • Prepare monthly billings and ensure subcontractors are included, submitting and collecting billings according to contract terms.
  • Provide information on change orders, contract scope, and modifications to operations managers/senior project manager, superintendents, and foremen.
  • Coordinate change order estimates and negotiate changes with customers to ensure timely processing and documentation.
  • Ensure all daily corporate documentation is complete and up to date, including time sheets, work orders, and job diaries.
  • Attend meetings with operations managers/senior project manager and advise them of any significant problems.
  • Review all job cost reports with operations managers/senior project manager on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor labor costs and projections with superintendents/foremen and report back to Sr. Project Manager.
  • Responsible for processing and coordination of shop drawings, product submittals, and record drawing submittals.
  • Maintain positive relations with clients/owners and resolve conflicts via verbal communication.
  • Issue vendor purchase orders and subcontracts in a timely manner.
  • Verify that all materials invoiced have been delivered to the job site.
  • Answer questions for accounting and administrative staff.
  • Ensure job close-out is performed efficiently and keep operations managers informed of close-out status.
  • Monitor compliance with company/project safety program requirements.

Requirements

  • 2 years of commercial construction experience.
  • Proficient in Bluebeam and ProCore software.
  • Strong project coordination skills and experience with construction management software.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
