About the position

The Project Engineer for Battery Energy Storage at Tesla Motors is a key technical member of a cross-functional team responsible for evaluating, defining, and executing battery storage projects. This role involves managing engineering activities from the design phase through to commissioning, ensuring successful project execution. The position requires a passion for engineering and a commitment to transforming the world's energy infrastructure in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

• Application of electrical engineering principles to identify issues & develop solutions relating to Battery Energy Storage projects
• Work cross-functionally to ensure all engineering activity is progressing as needed to ensure successful projects
• Responsible for project ownership and execution, which requires understanding/managing the scope and schedule and keeping all parties in sync
• Interface with internal customers (project managers, product engineers, sales team) and external customers (utilities, AHJs, contractors, end customers) to ensure consistent communication
• Identify gaps in scope and responsibility to ensure project success, requiring a comprehensive understanding of engineering, construction, and permitting concepts
• Generate single line drawings, communication wiring diagrams, and Powerpack & Megapack system layouts for Battery Energy Storage projects

Requirements

• Degree in an Engineering discipline or 3-5 years relevant experience as an Electrical/Project Engineer
• Power Systems, Electronics & CAD Skills are preferred
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Ability to execute many projects and tasks in parallel
• Knowledge of development of the electrical construction drawing set are advantageous
• Knowledge of relevant standards and electrical studies for utility applications are advantageous
• Knowledge of Controls, Networking, SCADA are advantageous
• Experience in Renewables, PV, Battery storage, EPC, Generation system design, Microgrids
