About the position

The Project Engineer at BNSF Railway is responsible for managing the implementation of construction projects, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining project performance. This role involves planning, permitting, construction management, and inspection, with a focus on engineering support for various railway projects. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills to handle multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation of construction projects including planning, permitting, project administration, construction management, inspection, and project performance.
  • Implement and manage construction safety processes.
  • Evaluate and control change orders associated with projects and support cash flow forecast process.
  • Prepare detailed estimates for the Capital Expenditure Program.
  • Maintain internal project databases/reports with up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Manage the development of engineering plans, estimates, and schedules for main line and other track projects.
  • Lead federally funded slope stabilization and corridor enhancement projects while maintaining relationships with associated agencies.
  • Provide engineering support for design and maintenance of railroad structures including bridges, tunnels, and culverts.
  • Assist during Service Interruption response and Command Center events.
  • Coordinate internal design and construction activities to progress overall projects.

Requirements

  • Experience working with contractors for construction projects relating to track and intermodal facilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to convey technical aspects of projects.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Planning and engineering design capability essential.
  • Thorough understanding of track and general civil engineering, including geotechnical engineering.
  • Knowledgeable of track maintenance and train operations.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Working understanding of regional permitting processes is desirable.
  • Engineering or Construction Management degree highly desired.
  • Knowledge of BNSF's engineering standards and policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federally funded projects.
  • Familiarity with public agency relationships and grant application processes.
