About the position

SCS is at the forefront of developing sustainable environmental protection practices by working with industry and regulatory agencies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and optimize operations at solid waste facilities. We are searching for a Project Engineer for our Tampa office who seeks to advance their career through training, mentoring, and experience in the field and office. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, team-focused, and humble. As a Project Engineer, you will oversee the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications with the ability to serve as the Engineer of Record on projects for public and private clients.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record on projects for public and private clients.
  • Conduct engineering design, client communications, project management, and staff coordination.
  • Focus on solid waste management projects, including landfill gas, landfills, and landfill infrastructure.
  • Prepare solid waste facility and environmental control system infrastructure permit applications and regulatory agency submittals.
  • Complete quality control reviews on all work products prior to submission.
  • Perform field work including surveys/data gathering, CQA liner installations, and inspections.
  • Engage in business development, proposal preparation, and client meetings.
  • Coordinate with GIS and CAD drafters for design plans/figures or use AutoCAD or ArcGIS for basic design plans/figures.
  • Prepare calculations in support of design documents and reports as requested.
  • Work independently and on design teams to implement engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Florida P.E. registration required or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related engineering degree is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience specific to the solid waste industry is required.
  • Competency with MS Office and other computer software normally used in environmental consulting is required.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D design software is preferred.
  • Driving Record will be checked upon time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in landfill gas management, air compliance, landfill design and permitting, landfill operations support, or compost facility operations.
