Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification) Services, is actively seeking a Project Engineer - Cybersecurity, Medical to join our Electrical team in Boxborough, MA. The Project Engineer - Cybersecurity, Medical position is responsible for independently performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the requirements of U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards. This includes writing reports and communicating with clients. The successful candidate should have a deep understanding of the specific cybersecurity standards, risk management practices, and regulatory requirements associated with IIoT and/or Medical Devices. The role involves reading and determining the applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT), setting up and operating standard test equipment, and performing various core tests such as rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, and more. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Project Engineer will mentor less senior technical personnel, supply information for quotes, and provide ongoing support to clients. The role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. The successful candidate will also stay abreast of the latest IT trends, security standards, and regulatory requirements related to the relevant sector, ensuring compliance and providing comprehensive reports of assessment findings and recommendations for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the requirements of U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards.
  • Write reports and communicate project status and test results to clients, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
  • Set up and operate standard test equipment including spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, and more.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards, including core tests such as rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, and flammability.
  • Mentor less senior technical personnel.
  • Supply information for quotes such as length of project, site needed, rental equipment, samples, and standards that will be used.
  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring that samples are logged in and out of the system.
  • Move equipment as needed through the facility and properly package samples for shipment.
  • Provide sales support such as attending client visits and developing customer-facing workshops, training materials, and whitepapers.
  • Conduct on and off-site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive compliance audits on clients' IT products and systems, identifying potential risks.
  • Review and assess third-party security practices and protocols, ensuring they meet or exceed industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a directly related field.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with effective prioritization and organization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and quality-driven mindset.
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, approximately 15%.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or software engineering.
  • Prior project management experience.
  • Familiarity with regulations, standards, and best practices related to IT security such as IEC 62443, IEC TR 60601-4-5, IEC 81001-5-1, ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, etc.
  • Non-manufacturer, professional designations, and certifications such as CISA, CISSP.
  • Other cybersecurity designations such as OSCP, CEH, SANS.
