About the position

The Project Engineer - Electrical position at AKF Group LLC is a full-time role based in New York, NY, focused on overseeing and executing electrical engineering projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing essential deliverables such as calculations, drawings, and specifications, while ensuring that all aspects of projects are managed effectively. This includes setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and examining field conditions to support the development and completion of projects. The role requires designing building electrical systems, which encompass power, lighting, communication, security systems, and fire alarms, all while adhering to the firm's quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Project Engineer will attend meetings with architects, owners, and building managers to discuss current and future projects, ensuring that client goals and objectives are met. The position also involves assisting in business development by pursuing new work opportunities and participating in client presentations. A key aspect of this role is mentoring junior firm members and contributing to the firm's human resource efforts. The Project Engineer is expected to enhance the firm's reputation by taking ownership of internal and external client requests and demonstrating core values as a role model. To stay current in the field, the Project Engineer will update their job knowledge and technical expertise through educational opportunities, professional publications, and participation in technical organizations. The role may also require performing other duties as assigned, making adaptability and a proactive approach essential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare basic deliverables and products including calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Oversee all aspects of projects
  • Set deadlines and assign responsibilities
  • Examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects
  • Design building electrical systems including power, lighting, communication, security systems, and fire alarm while adhering to the firm's QA/QC process
  • Develop project specifications
  • Attend meetings with architects, owners, and building managers to discuss future and/or current projects
  • Meet the client's project goals and objectives
  • Assist in business development by pursuing new work including participation in client presentations
  • Assist in the firm's human resource efforts through training and mentoring junior firm members
  • Enhance the firm's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing internal and external client requests
  • Demonstrate core values and serve as a role model/mentor to all firm members
  • Update job knowledge and technical expertise by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, participating in technical organizations, and obtaining certifications in area of expertise
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited engineering program
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with a consulting engineering firm
  • Comprehensive knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making, and analytical skills
  • Possess strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasive, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines and adapt to flexible responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Ability to meet and exceed client expectations

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Deltek or Project Resource Management software
  • PE license is preferred
  • LEED Certification is preferred
  • Certifications in areas of expertise are preferred
