About the position

The Project Engineer for Wastewater Facilities is responsible for managing and executing medium to large capital infrastructure projects related to water and wastewater treatment. This role involves close collaboration with local operations personnel and cross-functional teams to ensure projects meet operational, financial, and regulatory objectives. The engineer will oversee project planning, design, and construction, ensuring compliance with technical and environmental standards while delivering projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Manage water/wastewater projects, including conceptual design/development and coordination of pilot testing.
  • Develop project plans and support external and internal funding approvals.
  • Create technical, bidding, and contractual documents in accordance with enterprise engineering guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with Technical and Environmental Health and Safety/Security standards in design specifications.
  • Manage environmental and governmental permitting in coordination with local business unit staff.
  • Provide oversight of design and construction management personnel to ensure timely completion and budget compliance.
  • Monitor delivery metrics and utilize alternate procurement and delivery methods to drive efficiency.
  • Provide monthly reports to management regarding the status of capital projects and issues affecting performance.
  • Participate in the development of engineering design and delivery processes and standards.
  • Support local operations and business development teams in developing opportunities for additional services and new contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing water/wastewater design and construction projects.
  • Experience with environmental regulatory framework and permitting approvals preferred.
  • Strong project management skills across all project phases.
  • Thorough knowledge of water and wastewater conveyance and process applications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across the enterprise.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with alternate project delivery and contracting methods.
  • Computer skills including MS Office Suite and planning/performance monitoring tools.
  • Financial analysis skills including budget management and risk assessment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License desired.
  • PMP and/or Construction Management certifications a plus.
