About the position

We are currently seeking a multifaceted and meticulous Project Engineer to lead our Government Senior Leader Special Air Mission program. In this role, you will be responsible for leading technical execution across all related programs and projects. You will work closely with the Program Manager to oversee various engineering projects aimed at delivering high-quality, groundbreaking satellite communications system equipment for government customers. These projects will involve system engineering, engineering development, engineering validation and verification, and system certification. Your role will require you to create and maintain positive relationships while being involved in the integration, testing, and deployment of new mobility solutions as the Technical Point of Contact for the Business Area. You will ensure that customer technical requirements and expectations for satellite communication modems, terminal equipment, and software are met or exceeded. Additionally, you will apply your project engineering skills to contribute to a multi-functional engineering team through effective verbal and written interactions with customers, industry partners, and Viasat senior leadership. As a Project Engineer, you will lead projects that require coordinated efforts across government and industry partners, ensuring that designs meet the intent of military and/or FAA certification. Your technical expertise and passion will be integral in crafting new networks and servicing existing programs. You will collaborate closely with our Business Development team and directly with customers to define system requirements, working alongside Program Managers and engineers to find practical solutions that meet these requirements. You will serve as a primary point of contact for key technical communications with customers, providing best-in-class service and support throughout the entire program life-cycle while participating in business area growth.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining positive relationships and being involved in the integration, test, and deployment of new mobility solutions as the Technical Point of Contact for the Business Area.
  • Ensuring customer technical requirements and expectations for satellite communication modems, terminal equipment, and software are met or exceeded.
  • Applying project engineering skills to contribute to a multi-function engineering team through verbal and written interactions with the customer, industry partners, and Viasat senior leadership.
  • Leading projects that require coordinated teams across government and industry partners.
  • Ensuring designs meet the intent of military and/or FAA certification.

Requirements

  • 15+ years' proven experience as a Project Engineer or Systems Engineer.
  • Proven ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining professionalism.
  • Ability to present technical details at an abstracted level.
  • Proven experience leading and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, Business Development, Systems, Software, Product, Test both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated skills with working between high-level requirements and low-level system specifications.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Engineering gate process experience.
  • Solid understanding of IP/Networking equipment, including configuration, application, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, TCP-IP networks, Crypto, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and VTC.
  • Aerospace engineering discipline with aircraft certification experience.
  • Proven track record with driving technical contractual requirements to deliver on-time.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical subject area or equivalent experience.
  • US Government position. US Citizenship Required.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% both CONUS and OCONUS.
