About the position

As a Project Engineer in the Grid Modelling and Compliance team at Invenergy, you will focus on power system and equipment modeling to ensure compliance with grid codes for renewable energy generation and transmission facilities. This role involves performing detailed studies using specialized engineering software to evaluate project performance and coordinating modeling work with engineering firms and equipment manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grid studies related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, and HVDC modeling.
  • Develop power system models for different renewable generation projects using tools like PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, and ASPEN Oneliner.
  • Assist in developing and tuning power plant controllers in collaboration with OEMs to meet grid code performance requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of NERC standards related to grid modeling and various independent system operators.
  • Support interconnection and grid analysis, renewable project engineering, and generation and transmission operation groups with power systems engineering expertise.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders by preparing detailed reports or presentations on analyses and solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in power system studies such as power flow analysis, transient stability, EMT analysis, and short circuit analysis.
  • Knowledge of renewable generation operation, design, and control.
  • Experience with power system modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, and ASPEN Oneliner.
  • Knowledge of EHV/HV electrical infrastructure including substations, transmission lines, and transformers.
  • Project management skills and ability to coordinate work with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, up to 15%.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or higher in power engineering.
  • Specialized coursework in power system analysis, power electronics, and control systems.
  • Programming experience in Python, VBA, or other languages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong organization and planning skills for managing tasks across multiple projects.
