About the position

Sterling Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Engineer for our Heavy Civil projects in Cheyenne, WY. This position is integral to our project teams, providing essential support to Project Superintendents and ensuring that all aspects of project management are executed efficiently and effectively. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are crucial to the success of our projects. You will assist in public relations, manage claims, handle subcontractor back charges, and oversee force account work. Your role will also involve ensuring that the contractor's performance rating remains above 90 percent, which is vital for maintaining our reputation and client satisfaction. You will process all necessary documents required to initiate projects, following a detailed project checklist to ensure nothing is overlooked. In addition to these responsibilities, you will coordinate with subcontractors, update and maintain the Critical Path Method (C.P.M.) schedule under the direction of the Project Manager, and schedule surveys and inspections for field operations. You will also be tasked with updating and maintaining as-built drawings as required, tracking quantities to ensure accurate payments by the owner, and managing Blue Stakes. Your financial acumen will be essential as you review budgets, adjust job costing, and manage change order correspondence and tracking. Your role will also include acting as a liaison between the company, the project owner, and all subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and timely responses to inquiries. You will prepare Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, transmittals, change order logs, and serial letters accurately and promptly. Additionally, you will track project expenses and record them in Heavy Job/Viewpoint on a weekly basis, ensuring that all financial aspects of the project are monitored closely.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Superintendents in various project tasks.
  • Manage public relations, claims, subcontractor back charges, and force account work.
  • Ensure project's contractor performance rating remains above 90 percent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college, technical school, or university in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 4+ years of project engineer experience within a commercial construction company.
  • 4+ years of project engineer experience with technical tasks such as collecting, connecting, and reporting on multiple data points daily.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience with deep foundations, pile, and shoring (preferably).
  • Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures pertaining to commercial construction.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision and as a team player.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight, multiple, and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
