About the position

The Project Engineer I is responsible for supporting functions related to construction management within the electrical construction industry. This role involves working on projects for federal, state, and municipal clients across the United States. The Project Engineer will assist in the preparation of plans and specifications, providing general project support to senior project management professionals. This position is crucial in ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and in compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. As part of the role, the Project Engineer will interpret construction drawings, review plans and specifications, and prepare checklists of contract features that require periodic attention. They will also be responsible for listing items that subcontractors must submit for approval before commencing work, assisting with cost estimates and project scheduling, and maintaining accurate records throughout the project lifecycle. The Project Engineer will prepare statements of work, submittals, and manage change requests, along with necessary daily and weekly reporting. Safety is a top priority in this role, and the Project Engineer will promote safety in construction operations, ensuring compliance with safety requirements. They will inspect equipment, materials, workmanship, and finished construction, checking the progress of work in the field and observing ongoing work to ensure adherence to procedures and specifications. Regular attendance and compliance with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy are essential for this position, which will be performed in a designated office or field location.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret applicable construction drawings
  • Assist with the review of plans and specifications and prepare a checklist of contract features which require periodic attention
  • List items the sub-contractor must submit for approval prior to the start of the work
  • Assist with cost estimates and project scheduling as needed
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate records
  • Assist with preparing statements of work, submittals, change management and necessary daily and weekly reporting
  • Promote safety in construction operations and ensure compliance with safety requirements
  • Inspect equipment, material, workmanship and finished construction
  • Check progress of work in the field
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed, and materials used conform to required specifications
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience in the construction process of commercial electrical operations or general construction experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field; a combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera at an intermediate or higher level
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think practically while remaining detail-oriented
