About the position

The Project Engineer II role at BASF in Freeport, TX, is focused on managing all phases of capital and expense projects within the Petrochemicals division. This position requires a results-oriented leader who can build strong relationships and effectively collaborate across various levels of the organization. The engineer will be responsible for project scope development, cost estimation, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams in developing project scopes, generating cost estimates, and preparing funding requests.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health requirements while promoting a safe working environment.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping to final documentation.
  • Request and coordinate required engineering and design resources to prepare engineering design deliverables and procure necessary equipment.
  • Maintain SAP project data entries, monitor project progress, perform status reporting, and control spending through tracking and forecasting.
  • Perform procurement activities including preparing specifications, issuing requisitions, and evaluating bids.
  • Request necessary construction and commissioning resources to install the scope of work and ensure proper documentation of project files and records.
  • Monitor and support construction activities to ensure projects meet design deliverables and quality standards, and conduct pre-startup safety reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably in mechanical or chemical engineering.
  • Five or more years of engineering experience in a chemical, petrochemical, or similar manufacturing environment.
  • At least two years of project management experience with a proven track record of executing multiple small to medium size capital projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented skills and capability of working in a multi-task environment.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and project execution best practices.
  • Familiarity with SAP systems (preferred).
