About the position

The Sr. Bridge Engineer at RK&K is responsible for the design and preparation of contract documents for bridge projects, ensuring compliance with AASHTO codes and NCDOT manuals. This role involves project research, drawing development, engineering computations, and condition inspections of structures. The engineer will work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment to create innovative and cost-effective designs while also participating in marketing efforts related to structural engineering opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead structural design development and provide structural direction to projects.
• Provide senior level structural expertise on all project aspects including conceptual and detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contract documents for construction.
• Assume responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of design work.
• Develop and/or modify standard details for projects.
• Assess efficiency of contract document preparation and suggest improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• P.E. (Professional Engineer) License.
• Ten (10) to twenty (20) or more years of bridge design experience.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Leap Bridge Concrete, AASHTOWare BrR, Microstation, and other structural programs.
• Strong understanding of industry codes and standards related to bridge design and construction (e.g. AASHTO, ACI, ASCE).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with clients and stakeholders.
• Valid driver's license and favorable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• NCDOT structures/bridge experience.
• NCDOT Seismic Design.
