About the position

The Project Engineer-Industrial position at UMC is a critical role responsible for managing mechanical construction projects. This position requires effective communication, negotiation, scheduling, tracking, document control, material procurement, and forecasting of costs and profitability. The Project Engineer will work closely with project management to ensure that all aspects of the project are executed efficiently and in compliance with UMC standards and contractual obligations. The role involves estimating and negotiating change orders, tracking quantities for productivity forecasting, and expediting the delivery of major equipment and materials. Additionally, the Project Engineer will maintain a working knowledge of general conditions, work scope, and specifications of project contracts and subcontracts, ensuring that all documentation is controlled and compliant with UMC standards. The Project Engineer will also be responsible for developing and submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) with oversight from project management, collaborating with field labor supervision to plan, organize, and schedule project work, and reviewing contract drawings and specifications. Participation in the AIM processes may be required for specific projects, and adherence to UMC's Safety Program is mandatory, including attendance at all safety meetings. Regular attendance and punctuality are considered essential functions of this role. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Project Engineer may assist in the bid process and the procurement of new work, providing customer service and maintaining client relations while collaborating with other contractors. Responsibilities

  • Estimate and negotiate change orders.
  • Track quantities for productivity forecasting.
  • Buyout major equipment and subcontracts.
  • Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment/materials.
  • Maintain working knowledge of general conditions, work scope and specifications of project contract/subcontract.
  • Maintain and control documents in compliance with UMC Standards as well as contractual compliance.
  • Develop and submit RFI's with project management oversight.
  • Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize and schedule project work including preparation of subcontract/contract integrated project schedule.
  • Review contract drawings, detail drawings and specifications.
  • Participate in and follow the AIM processes as may be required for a project.
  • Ensure full compliance with UMC Safety Program at the jobsite and attend all safety meetings.
  • Assist in the bid process and the procurement of new work.
  • Provide customer service/maintain client relations and collaborate with other contractors.

Requirements

  • Construction Management, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering degree desired.
  • Ability to accurately estimate mechanical work.
  • Ability to lead and foster a positive working environment.
  • Ability to understand and communicate basic mechanical concepts.
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail - errors & mistakes can result in significant financial losses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Advanced computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Project, Access, AutoCAD, Front Desk, Blue Beam, Smartsheet, and Viewpoint.
