About the position

The Project Engineer for Marine Structures at Mott MacDonald will play a crucial role in supporting the ports, coastal, and offshore (PCO) practice. This position involves managing projects related to marine structures, including engineering analysis, design, and condition assessments, while contributing to the development of coastal resiliency and infrastructure. The role is based in Seattle and requires collaboration with various teams across North America.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of projects that may include engineering analysis, preliminary and detailed design of marine structures, and structure condition assessments.
  • Track project budgets and progress and regularly report to the project manager.
  • Provide technical engineering analysis, design, and technical review of projects with a focus on marine structures in coastal, port, and water resource environments.
  • Oversee the design of junior engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Prepare drawings and technical specifications for construction.
  • Prepare cost estimates on projects during the design phase.
  • Assist in business development activities, including preparation of proposals.
  • Collaborate with Mott MacDonald practices across North America and abroad.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related field
  • 5 years of structural engineering design experience in waterfront and offshore structures or buildings or bridges
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in WA, OR, or CA
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, including technical writing and presentation skills
  • Desire to advance to project manager role
  • Familiarity with industry standard analysis, design, and project management software (e.g. SAP2000, LPile, MS Excel, MS Project, MathCAD, RISA)
  • Demonstrated experience with condition assessment of timber, reinforced concrete, or steel structures.

Nice-to-haves

  • 7-10 years of structural engineering design experience in waterfront and offshore structures
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related field
  • Performance-based seismic assessment and design of structures
  • Experience applying ASCE Manual of Practice 130
  • Experience applying ASCE 61
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE)
  • Experience with Deltek Maconomy
