About the position

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Project Engineer (Mechanical/Piping) opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN to support a Department of Energy (DOE) project. This role involves a variety of responsibilities that are crucial for the successful execution of projects in the mechanical and piping domains. The Project Engineer will be responsible for jobsite documentation, which includes managing Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, Supplemental Deviation Disposition Requests (SDDR), and submittals. Coordination with shop and field deliveries of equipment and materials is essential to ensure that all components arrive on time and meet project specifications. In addition to documentation and coordination, the Project Engineer will assemble estimates and budgets, manage subcontractors and vendors, and attend project meetings to ensure all stakeholders are aligned. The role also requires writing and tracking purchase orders and subcontracts, updating project schedules, and crafting productivity tracking reports. A significant aspect of this position is acting as the lead for engineering support to clients regarding the design, installation, and commissioning of HVAC systems. The Project Engineer will also mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level project engineers, fostering a collaborative and educational environment. The Project Engineer will serve as a liaison between project management, quality control, senior engineering personnel, shop personnel, and field crews. Maintaining project tracking logs for fabrication and equipment installation is critical for accurate project reporting and schedule incorporation. Additionally, the role involves developing weld maps to support field modifications of HVAC duct as required by installation teams. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education in area of expertise preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 3+ Years of experience as a Field Engineer or Project Engineer; or 5 years of experience in parallel scopes of work.
  • HVAC and or Piping knowledge experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Proficient with learning and applying technical concepts.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure and deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Display diplomacy and tact in collaborating with a wide variety of colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel, Word, and Project).
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates organizational and time management skills.
