About the position

Suffolk is seeking a Senior Safety Manager who will play a pivotal role in the administration, direction, and implementation of corporate safety and health policies and procedures. This position requires collaboration with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Project Executives to ensure that safety protocols are not only established but also effectively communicated and enforced across all projects. The Senior Safety Manager will be responsible for identifying opportunities for improvements in corporate safety programs and mentoring Safety Managers as required by the Regional Safety Director. The role involves providing administrative expertise related to project-specific safety document storage in OnTrac, coordinating and facilitating subcontractors' Pre-Construction Safety Planning Meetings, and ensuring compliance with Federal (OSHA) and state as well as local safety and health regulations, including NFPA and JCAHO Standards. The Senior Safety Manager will review all Subcontractors' Site Specific Safety Programs and Job Hazard Analysis prior to Subcontractor mobilization, conduct regularly scheduled site evaluations using Predictive Solutions software, and follow up on corrections to deficiencies. In addition, the Senior Safety Manager will monitor Tool Box Talks conducted by subcontractors to assure documentation and quality, perform root cause and accident investigation techniques in the event of a job site accident, and actively coordinate with Regional Risk Managers for identification of claims trends and proactive risk management planning. The role also includes enforcing documentation from all subcontractors regarding the proper training of their employees related to their scope of work and conducting training for OSHA 10 or 30 Hour, HAZWOPER, and other safety-related topics.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related work experience in field of Construction Health and Safety
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State safety and health regulations, as well as local building code issues for safety and health
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction or Safety preferred but not required
  • Qualified OSHA Construction Industry Outreach Trainer
  • Professional CHST certification
  • Demonstrated leadership with construction and safety technologies and practices
  • Willingness to provide best in class customer service
  • Trained as CPR Instructor (training is provided)
  • Completed required internal training with Learning and Development team
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
