About the position

SCS Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer specializing in Solid Waste, either in Civil or Environmental Engineering, to join our Tampa office. This role is pivotal in advancing sustainable environmental protection practices, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing operations at solid waste facilities. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications, serving as the Engineer of Record for various projects involving public and private clients. In this position, you will engage in engineering design, client communications, project management, and staff coordination, with a primary focus on solid waste management. This includes working on landfill gas management, landfill design and permitting, and other related projects that may require design, engineering, permitting, construction, and operational support. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by contributing to projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support civil and environmental initiatives, such as landfill gas collection systems, industrial wastewater management, and stormwater permitting and design. Your responsibilities will also include preparing solid waste facility and environmental control system infrastructure permit applications, conducting quality control reviews on all work products, and performing fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions. Additionally, you will be involved in business development activities, including proposal preparation and client meetings, and will coordinate with GIS and CAD drafters for design plans. This role requires a blend of independent work and collaboration within design teams to implement effective engineering solutions and represent SCS at industry meetings and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, reports, and permit applications.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record on projects for public and private clients.
  • Engage in engineering design, client communications, project management, and staff coordination.
  • Focus on solid waste management projects, including landfill gas, landfills, and landfill infrastructure.
  • Prepare solid waste facility and environmental control system infrastructure permit applications and regulatory agency submittals.
  • Complete quality control reviews on all work products prior to submission.
  • Perform fieldwork including surveys, data gathering, and inspections in varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation and client meetings.
  • Coordinate with GIS and CAD drafters for design plans and figures.
  • Prepare calculations in support of design documents and reports.

Requirements

  • Florida P.E. registration (preferably civil or environmental) required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related engineering degree is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience specific to the solid waste industry is required.
  • Competency with MS Office and other software used in environmental consulting is required.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D design software is preferred.

Nice-to-haves
